THE DELTA KAPPA GAMMA SOCIETY INTERNATIONAL
ALPHA UPSILON MASSACHUSETTS
ALPHA ZETA CHAPTER BY-LAWS
ARTICLE 1: NAME
Section 1. The name of this chapter organization shall be Alpha Zeta of Alpha Upsilon, Massachusetts of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Inc.
ARTICLE II: PURPOSE
Section 1. The purpose of Alpha Zeta Chapter shall be to:
1. Promote the seven purposes of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International as found in the CONSTITUTION, Article II.
2. Accept the Alpha Upsilon State By-laws with the provisions set forth as Alpha Zeta Chapter By-laws.
ARTICLE III: MEMBERSHIP
Section 1. The membership of Alpha Zeta Chapter shall be composed of active, reserve, and honorary members in conformity with Alpha Upsilon State
and in accordance with the CONSTITUTION Article III.
ARTICLE IV: FINANCES
Section 1. Annual Dues
A. The Alpha Zeta Chapter fiscal year shall be from July 1-June 30.
B. Alpha Zeta Chapter dues shall be paid by Oct. 31.
C. All dues and fees shall be collected by the Alpha Zeta Chapter treasurer.
D. Annual dues and scholarship fees shall be paid to International and State in
accordance with the By-laws, Article IV, Section A3, Alpha Upsilon State.
Section 2. Financial Controls
A. The treasurer shall be authorized to sign for payments of Chapter expenses. The president
will also have this authority if the treasurer in unable to complete the task. The president is a
co-signor on the Chapter checking account and the charge card account. In the event that the
treasurer is unavailable, the President is authorized to pay Chapter expenses.
B. An audit of chapter accounts shall be conducted annually by a person or committee
appointed by the president.
ARTICLE V: ORGANIZATION
Alpha Zeta Chapter shall govern and conduct business according to the CONSTITUTION and Alpha Upsilon State By-laws.
ARTICLE VI: OFFICERS AND RELATED PERSONNEL
Section 1. Officers
A. Alpha Zeta Chapter officers shall be a president, a first vice-president, a second
vice-president, a recording secretary and a corresponding secretary (all elected) and a treasurer
appointed by the president.
B. Officers, elected by the Chapter membership in even-numbered years, shall have a term of two years. No officer except the treasurer, recording secretary, and a corresponding secretary may serve in the same office longer than two terms in succession. All officers shall take office on July 1 following their election, in accordance with Article V, Section A, 2 a of the Alpha Upsilon State By-laws.
C. Responsibilities of Officers
1. 1st Vice President: Program Chair
2. 2nd Vice President: Parliamentarian
3. Corresponding Secretary: Directory and Communication
4. Recording Secretary: Communication about Legislation
ARTICLE VII: COMMITTEES
Section 1. Standing committees shall be:
A. Finance:
The committee shall consist of the chapter president, the chapter treasurer, and
the chapter program chairperson (First Vice-President). The Committee shall prepare the
budget which shall be presented to the Executive Board for approval at the beginning of the
biennium. The committee will review the budget at the beginning of the second year of
each biennium for presentation to the Executive Board.
B. Historian /Research
C. Hospitality
D. Legislation
E. Literacy
F. Membership
G. Music
H. Nominations:
The chair of this committee must be the immediate past president and include
two other chapter members, chosen by the chairman.
I. Professional Development
J. Website
Section 2 . General Procedures
1. All committees shall be appointed by the president. The president shall serve as ex officio
member of all committees except Nominations.
2. Matters requiring immediate committee action may be voted upon by mail, fax/phone, and/or
e-mail. Majority vote of the committee members shall be required for action.
ARTICLE VIII: MEETINGS
Section 1. The fall meeting and state spring convention shall be in addition to Alpha Zeta Chapter meetings. Chapter members are encouraged to
attend the annual Area V meeting.
Section 2. Alpha Zeta Chapter shall meet a minimum of four times annually. Members are expected to attend at least one meeting per year.
Section 3. Alpha Zeta executive board shall meet a minimum of twice annually.
ARTICLE IX: AMENDMENTS
Section 1 . Any By-laws shall be approved by a two-thirds vote of the executive board before being submitted to the members.
Section 2 . Any By-laws may be amended or rescinded each biennium by a two-thirds vote, provided notice of proposed amendments shall have
been published to members 60 days before the annual spring meeting.
